ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳

Development of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030

An inclusive process

The development of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030 has been the largest consultation in the School’s history. Over twelve months ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030 was shaped by our unique community into a strategic vision for the future.

Spring 2018

ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Director Minouche Shafik launched an open consultation on the School’s future strategy.

The online consultation asked the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ community to consider the vision and direction of travel until 2030 across six strategic themes:

  • ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Founding Purpose
  • ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Education
  • ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Research
  • Global Engagement and Impact
  • Alumni Engagement
  • Staff Engagement

Early summer 2018

The Director and School Management Committee (SMC) ran a series of face-to-face workshops, town halls, briefings and focus groups to discuss ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ strategy with students, staff and friends of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳.

Over 600 members of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ community joined the conversations and shared views.

The online consultation closed in July 2018. 1800 students, staff alumni and friends contributed.

Late summer 2018

The School Management Committee (SMC) analysed all of the ideas and views shared in the consultation. Academic faculty from ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Department of Methodology provided quantative and qualitative data analysis.

SMC ran workshops with School leaders to discuss emerging themes and create an initial strategic direction for ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳.

Autumn 2018

ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Director launched the second phase of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030 consultation, setting out emerging strategic themes for discussion with students, staff and the wider ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ community.

The School Management Committee (SMC) ran sessions with academic clusters, divisions, research centres, School leaders and the student community. There were more than 30 individual consultative fora reached over the term.

All feedback was captured from the second phase of the consultation and used to inform ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030.

Spring 2019

The ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030 strategy was refined by School Management Committee (SMC) using the input of the School community.

Council formally approved the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030 Strategy framework in February.

Summer 2019

ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ 2030 was launched internally on 29 April 2019.

Together we saw

  • 1800 staff, students and friends of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ contribute to the online consultation
  • We had seven main respondent groups: academics, professional services staff, undergraduates, postgraduates, alumni, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ governors and 'Other' (covering external participants)
  • 83% of respondents think our founding purpose continues to be relevant today
  • The majority of respondents are in favour of keeping ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ the same size
  • There is overwhelming support for an increase in postgraduate research places, maintaining our current mix of teaching subjects and engaging with policy makers
  • ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ research is regarded as socially valuable by each respondent group
  • Respondents showed considerable interest in building new international partnerships with other institutions, however the appetite for developing an overseas presence (e.g. a campus) was fairly limited
  • Over 600 colleagues participated in town halls and focus groups.
