Conference grants

How to apply

The Programme will make grants for travel and up to one week’s accommodation to enable Russian historians to visit conferences abroad.  These grants are open to all early and mid-career historians at Russian academic and higher educational institutions whose topics mostly fall within the years 1650-1918. This includes both historians of Imperial Russia and other countries. It also includes PhD students (ie aspiranty) as well as historians who hold academic posts.

Applications for conference grants are on a rolling basis, applicants should apply by email to Ih.Paulsen@lse.ac.uk and submit:

  • a brief (not more than 500 words) statement to explain how attending the conference will benefit their research
  • Curriculum Vitae and list of publications
  • letter in support from a senior academic historian familiar with them and their research
  • letter from the conference organisers inviting them to give a paper at the conference

The Paulsen Programme will cover all costs for conference fees, visas, economy travel, accommodation and board (on conditions and at rates as per ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ and UK HMRC policy), and will also reimburse costs for medical insurance.  Please note that recipients must provide evidence before leaving Russia that they have acquired adequate medical insurance for their time abroad.
