Alexandra Gomes is a Research Fellow responsible for coordinating spatial analysis across a range of projects at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Cities. Additionally, she holds teaching positions at UCL Bartlett School of Planning and serves as a Guest Teacher for the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ MSc City Design and Social Science. Alexandra also convenes national and international lectures and workshops related to her research, advisory, and consultancy work. She was honoured with the UCL Provost Education Award in 2021.
Alexandra possesses strong interdisciplinary skills, that uniquely position her to connect various aspects of urbanisation. Committed to shaping the future of cities through innovative research and education, her focus spans socio-spatial comparative analysis, urban policy, inequalities, health, sustainable mobility, public space, urban sensescapes, and visual communication. Her expertise extends globally, as she has led and coordinated research projects across diverse scales and geographies, spanning Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Furthermore, Alexandra has a broad portfolio of publications and visual outputs, showcasing her contributions through various mediums, including maps, exhibitions and games. Her work has been supported by entities such as the European Commission, governmental and non-governmental organisations, and philanthropies.
Alexandra holds a PhD in Planning Studies from the Bartlett School of Planning at University College London (UCL). Her dissertation developed a .
Before joining ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Cities, she worked as a Research Assistant at The Bartlett School of Planning and Geography Department at UCL. Alexandra also holds an MSc (Res) in Sociology and Development Planning from ISCTE-IUL and an MEng in Urban Engineering from IST-UL (Portugal). In Portugal, she contributed to spatial planning, sustainable transport mobility, and spatial analysis at Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon University.
