About me

Javiera is an economist who has worked across a spectrum of policy areas using several micro-econometrics techniques and policy-evaluation methodologies. Her research at CPEC focuses on inequalities in health and social care, the evaluation of long-term care services and health and social care integration strategies, as well as the role played by housing conditions and the development of care needs.

As part of the Models of Support for Moderate needs in Older People project (MSMOP), she is currently analysing local authority records to gather critical new evidence about how best to support older people with low and moderate social care needs. She is also involved in a project aiming to gain a better understanding of the relationship between housing quality and care needs (Care and Place project funded by the NIHR SSCR),  in research exploring the social care costs of falls among older people living in the community (a part of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in the Economics of Health and Social Care Systems - ESHCRU), and in a study looking at the evaluation of the hospital discharge to assess (D2A) approach among London Councils.

Her research often employs underused administrative data to help to gain a better understanding of the social care system in England.
