From the podium of the Berlaymont press room to a press corps of journalists from every corner of the European Union, the European Commission’s Spokesperson’s Service speaks up for Brussels every day. But with a real audience of over 500 million European citizens, the challenge of ensuring that the European Commission’s voice is heard is far from simple, not least in recent decades during which the European Union has faced some of the most profound crises since its inception.

Margaritis Schinas will share his experiences of communicating Europe and provide his personal insights into how the European Commission has navigated itself through recent years from a communication perspective, as well as tackling some of the most pressing communication challenges facing Europe today.

Margaritis Schinas () is Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission and Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication.

Professor Iain Begg () is Professorial Research Fellow at the European Institute and Co-Director of the Dahrendorf Forum, London School of Economics and Political Science.

The  () is a centre for research and graduate teaching on the processes of integration and fragmentation within Europe. In the most recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) the Institute was ranked first for research in its sector.
