Student Engagement Programme

Make the most of your time at the EI

From the moment you accept your offer, you are part of the vibrant and exciting community of students, staff, and alumni at the European Institute!

The Student Engagement Programme at the European Institute creates a welcoming and fun environment for our students to:

  • expand learning beyond the classroom
  • develop new professional skills
  • socialise with and learn from the wider EI community
  • make the most of living in London

We offer a range of events and activities that positively contribute to our students’ experience with us – and the student voice is fundamental to achieving this aim! Every programme elects student academic representatives who act as key points of contact between the student body and the EI. At termly Staff Student Liaison Committees,  student academic representatives present feedback from their fellow students and help to shape the way we do things. Students can also volunteer to act as social representatives for their programmes and take a proactive lead in organising social activities. These contributions actively influence our Student Engagement Programme, which changes to respond to and reflect our students’ interests.

Here are just some of the activities that we have organised previously:

EI Student Engagement Programme Activities

EU450

Professional Skills Workshops

A unique set of workshops run by practitioners from the industries and institutions that our students are likely to work in once they’ve completed their degrees. Previously we have welcomed workshop convenors from institutions including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Eurasia Group, and the European External Action Service.

Walking Tours

Walking Tours

A series of themed walking tours around London led by an accredited London Tour Guide in the first weeks of Autumn Term. The tours offer a chance to socialise with your fellow students and to familiarise yourself with areas of London surrounding the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ campus.

Alumni Advice

Alumni Advice Panels

Over the course of the academic year, we invite alumni to join us and share their experiences both as ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ students and in their subsequent careers. With themes including consultancy, migration, policy, government, and academia, we aim to provide students with an insight into a wide range of potential careers. The panels offer the opportunity to chat directly to people who’ve studied at the EI and kickstart career planning.

Cumberland Lodge

The EI Student Conference at Cumberland Lodge

Approximately 80 students can apply to join the EI Student Conference at Cumberland Lodge, a sixteenth century country manor located in Windsor Great Park. The conference is themed around contemporary debates in Europe. It takes place over three days. There are additional costs associated with the visit.

Dining Club (2)

The EI Dining Club

Bringing together staff and students at the EI through a love of international food and good company! At several points during the year, we negotiate an affordable set menu at a restaurant within reach of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ campus and invite the whole EI community along.

end-of-term drinks (1)

End-of-Term Celebrations

After a busy term of studying, we like to come together as a community to enjoy drinks and conversation as we celebrate everyone’s hard work!

Student reps (Izzy)

Student Representation

Each MSc programme nominates two of their members to represent their interests at termly Staff Student Liaison Committees. These meetings are an opportunity for the EI to address any issues or concerns that students may have about their studies, courses facilities on campus or any other item that they raise. Details about how to volunteer as an MSc Student Academic Representative will be sent out closer to the start of the first term.

Your student engagement programme

Your Student Engagement Programme!

The above is just a hint of the types of activities we undertake as part of the EI Student Engagement Programme. We welcome your ideas and endeavour to make the programme as relevant for students and their studies as possible.
