New and Visiting Faculty 2009/10

New Faculty

The Department of Finance is pleased to welcome Dr Ulf Axelson, Dr Maria Cecilia Bustamante, Dr Georgy Chabakauri, Dr Christian Julliard and Dr Dong Lou as members of its full time faculty for the 2009/10 academic session.

Ulf Axelson joins the Department as a Senior Lecturer from the Stockholm School of Economics. His research interests lie within the fields of private equity, financial innovation and security design, corporate finance, auction theory, and financial intermediation. He obtained his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University. Ulf will contribute to the Department's corporate finance provision by teaching FM431 Corporate Finance A in the 2009/10 academic year.

Maria Cecilia Bustamante recently completed her PhD in Finance at the University of Lausanne. Her research interests focus on dynamic corporate finance, its implications for asset prices, industrial organization and dynamic contracting. Maria will be the course leader for the new course FM474 Finance II, taught to students on the MSc Management 2 Year Programme.

Georgy Chabakauri makes the short journey across London to join ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ from London Business School, where he has recently completed a PhD in Finance. Georgy's research interests include asset pricing, portfolio choice and risk management. Georgy will be the course leader for the new course FM473 Finance I, taught to students on the MSc Management 2 Year Programme.

Christian Julliard is a welcome addition to the the Department, making a switch from his current position as a lecturer in the Department of Economics. Christian will take over as course leader of FM404 Forecasting Financial Time Series in addition to teaching on the Lent Term of FM437 Financial Econometrics. His research interests include macroeconomics, applied econometrics, international economics and finance and real estate finance.

Dong Lou joins ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ from Yale University, where he has recently completed his PhD in Finance. Dong will  teach the Lent Term section of FM473 Finance I.

Visiting Faculty

In addition to the four newly recruited faculty members the Department would also like to welcome three visiting academic faculty during the 2009/10 academic year.

Stavros Panageas visits the Department from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, where he is an Assistant Professor in Finance. Stavros will teach the asset markets half of FM430 Corporate Finance and Asset Markets (and FM429 Asset Markets A) during the 2009/10 academic year.

Bruno Biais is a Professor of Finance at the University of Toulouse. He joins the Department for the 2009/10 academic year where he will contribute towards the Department's PhD teaching via FM502 Theories of Finance.

David Thesmar returns as a visiting lecture in 2009/10 from HEC in Paris. He will again contribute to the PhD course FM503 Empirical Finance.
