MSc Finance & Economics end of year trip to Morocco

Judy Jiang and Richard Adkins (MSc F&E Student Reps 2022-23) sent the following summary of their recent class trip.

The MSc Finance and Economics students have just returned from their epic end-of-year trip to Morocco. We all got a healthy dose of vitamin D after an intense exam season, thanks to the blazing sun that left us tanned and glowing.

We wandered through the bustling markets, searching for the No.29 stall for juice. On the half-open rooftop, we savoured some mouth-watering (and rather meaty) tajine with the stunning city view as our backdrop. Later, a buffet dinner was held in the backyard of our villa, followed by “the End of Year” award ceremony at the pool with moments of laughter.

The real adventure began when we strived into the vast and rocky desert on quad bikes, racing at 70kph. The tyres kicked up dust clouds, coating our bodies with a layer of the Agafay desert. However, we all left in high spirits, fueled by adrenaline.

Despite taking game theory for at least one term, we were no match for the local merchants regarding haggling. It’s evident the art of bargaining is way too hard to master, but we learned a strategy of walking away when the price was unreasonable. However, the taxi drivers were a different story. They were masters in dragging us into a tedious battle. Some of us had thrilling taxi rides, but weren’t those part of the cultural immersion that made our trip unforgettable?
