Eduardo Mercadante is a PhD student in the Department of International Development at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, under the supervision of Professor Ken Shadlen (ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳) and Professor Bhaven Sampat (Columbia). In his PhD thesis, he investigates the role of patent examination in the promotion of the balanced private and public incentives that base the rationale for pharmaceutical patenting, using Brazil as a case study of the challenges of implementing this policy in a developing country.
Eduardo holds a BA in Economic Sciences and an MA in Public Policies, Strategies and Development from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in Brazil. He has worked as an Occasional Research Fellow with Professor Ken Shadlen at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳. His main publications are focused on Brazil, investigating , , and .
