Each IR student has an academic mentor. Your academic mentor is a very important part of your time at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳: they maintain oversight of both your academic progress and your wellbeing. You will have a meeting with your mentor within the first two weeks of your time at the School, and it’s important that you maintain this relationship.
If you’re a joint honours student, your mentor might be a member of the faculty in your other department. It’s possible that you may have more than one mentor during your time in the Department, because of staff changes and availability. We will always make you aware of any changes.
Your academic mentor will be able to signpost you to a number of key services around the school, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with them.
To find out more about what to expect from your mentor, and what you bring to the mentoring relationship, take a look at:
If you feel that you’re not getting the most out of your academic mentoring, or are considering requesting a transfer, don’t hesitate to speak to your MSc programme coordinators or the BSc departmental tutor: see 'Who to ask'.
If you wish to proceed with a transfer, you cannot request a specific academic mentor. For MSc IPE/IPE Research and MSc IRT/IR Research students who wish to change mentor, any change would involve a move to a different or seminar group.
