Spotlight on our Security and Statecraft researchers:
Dr Anna Getmansky and Professor Chris Alden
Dr Anna Getmansky and Professor Chris Alden talk about the Security and Statecraft research cluster, and how it generates knowledge exchange in the Department and beyond.
They discuss their research, the main users of their findings, and exchange views on digital diplomacy, China in Africa and public opinion in the context of refugee integration in Turkey.
This video has been funded by ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Knowledge Exchange and Impact Fund. It was recorded in June 2021 during the Covid pandemic when the UK was in lockdown.

This cluster explores statecraft: the foreign policies and strategies of states and non-state actors; the wars and conflicts that sometimes result; and diplomacy and security relations.
Research and teaching in this cluster draws on diverse theoretic and methodological approaches, and ranges across levels of analysis, regions, and eras. Over two-dozen faculty and doctoral students contribute to this cluster.
Specific foci of research include foreign policy analysis, comparative strategy, identity and security, war and society, peace-building and conflict resolution, revolutions, human security and genocide. We have particular regional expertise in East Asia, Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and North America.
