Folllowing the Irish Ambassador and two distinguished academics Professor Gearty presented on the common ground that has already been achieved, and the barriers that remained in the way of further agreement. The audience was invitation-only and aimed at the diplomatic service and journalists based in Britain. Professor Conor Gearty commented:
"As the Brexit endgame comes closer it is vital that British opinion is as fully informed as it can be on the nature of the Irish question so far as discussions between Britain and the EU are concerned; an understanding of Ireland is vital to any deal that all sides hope to achieve between now and Brexit day."
