Congratulations to Dr Raffael Fasel, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Fellow at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Law, whose PhD thesis has been awarded the Yorke Prize by the University of Cambridge Law Faculty, recognising a doctorate of "exceptional quality, which makes a substantial contribution to its relevant field of legal knowledge”. The thesis, entitled 'More Equal Than Others: Animals in the Age of the Human Rights Aristocracy', analyses the intellectual-historical and conceptual foundations of the rights of human and non-human beings. Pioneering an unorthodox approach that focuses on species membership rather than individual capacities, it demonstrates how fundamental legal rights can be extended to non-human beings without threatening the status and equal rights of humans.
