David Donnison was an academic and social policy expert who played a key role in shaping social policy in the 1960s and 70s.
He worked closely with Brian Abel-Smith and Richard Titmuss, succeeding Titmuss to become the second ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Professor in Social Administration. Donnison, like his colleagues, was committed to the eradication of poverty of income and opportunity and had a significant influence on the development of Britain’s welfare state. Donnison focussed particularly housing and planning, and education. He left the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ in in 1969 going on to direct the Centre for Environment Studies and becoming Professor of Town and Regional Planning at the University of Glasgow.
