Vision
Our vision is to create a better world where a profound understanding of management drives positive change in business and society.
Mission
Our mission is to inform and inspire better management in practice by challenging and extending the understanding of people, teams, organisations and markets, and the economic, psychological, social, political and technological contexts in which they operate worldwide.
From our setting in a world-class social science institution at the heart of a leading global city, we achieve our mission by producing original and robust research insights, and delivering high-quality, evidence-based education.
We are proud to be part of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, an institution that ranks #3 in the world for social sciences and management (QS World University Rankings 2022) and #2 in the UK by percentage of overall four and three star research (REF 2021).
We engage with people and organisations worldwide, across the private, public, and third sectors, who are motivated to improve the world through better understanding and practice of management.
The Department of Management was formed in 2006-7 following the coming together of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Management, the Department of Industrial Relations, the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Operational Research. In 2008, the department moved into the New Academic Building which was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to the great excitement of students and staff alike. Since then, we have grown to become a leader in management research and teaching and continue to act as a forward-thinking entity looking to create a positive impact towards the betterment of society and the world of business. We now have a new home, the , which is the newest building on the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ campus since 2021!
