David Metcalf is Emeritus Professor of Industrial Relations in the Department of Management and the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Previously, he has been a visiting Professor at Princeton University and the Australian National University. He has worked extensively on the economic impact of unions, on pay systems and structures, and on employment and unemployment.
Outside of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, he is Director of Labour Market Enforcement which helps ensure enforcement of the minium standards regarding the national living wage, gangmasters and employment agencies.
Previously, Professor Metcalf was Chair of the Migration Advisory Committee, which defines priorityy shortage occupations and provides general advice on the economics of immigration. He was a member of the Senior Salaries Review Body 2009-15 and a fouding member of the Low Pay Commission from 1997-2007. He owns a share of a national hunt horse and is a Director of the Starting Price Regulatory Commission.
He was awarded a CBE in the 2008 New Year Honours list and Knighthood in the 2013 Birthday Honours. He is the only non-American to be made an Academic Fellow of the Labour and Employment Relations Association.
