About me

Diego studies digital inequalities and the social appropriation of digital technologies in underserved communities. He holds a PhD in Management (Royal Holloway, University of London) and his doctoral research topic is social inclusion in digital crowdsourcing platforms. His academic publications are related to the social use of technology, the digital divide and ICT4D, exploring opportunities for inclusion in underserved communities.

He hols a MSc in Industrial Engineering (National University of Colombia), where he explored the success factors of ICT public access venues in Bogota and lectured in the Faculty of Engineering between 2013 and 2016. He worked as the Data Analytics Lead on a research project to define and model the regional digital divide in Colombia for the Ministry of ICT, measuring digital inequalities in various dimensions at the regional level and working with local authorities to find opportunities for inclusion.

Before joining the REMEDIS project, Diego worked as the Digital Literacy Programme Manager at Code Your Future, providing foundational digital skills training to underserved people in the UK. Diego has also been involved in the practical side of tackling digital inequalities in initiatives like Trashware in Colombia and in organisations like Power to Connect in the UK.
