Marouf Cabi obtained his PhD in History from the University of St Andrews in 2019. His thesis explores the impact of the modernisation of Iran on Kurdish society in Iran between 1921 and 1979. The thesis was developed into a book published by I. B. Tauris in 2022.
Marouf has taught Middle Eastern histories and cultures at the University of St Andrews at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His research has appeared in several academic journals. He regularly presents public lectures for Iranian and Kurdish communities in Europe and online.
Marouf’s past research on the expansion of civil society in Iranian Kurdistan (2000-2020) at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ will appear as a chapter in his forthcoming book, entitled Iranian Kurdistan Under the Islamic Republic: Change, Revolution, and Resistance. Currently, at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, he studies the emergence of modern Kurdish historiography. He is also co-editing a book project, Iranian Kurdistan Since 1979, advising on another book project about the Kurmanji people in Iran, and supervising a research project funded by the Nahrein Network about the life and works of the Jews in Koya (Iraqi Kurdistan) between 1918-1948.
