Introductory R for Political Science

Availability

This course is available on the MSc in Political Science (Political Science and Political Economy). This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.

This course is strongly recommended for any MSc student who wishes to enrol on GV481. This includes, but is not limited to, students from the MSc in Political Science: Political Science and Political Economy (PSPE) stream and Political Behaviour stream, for which GV481 is a core course.

Course content

The aim of this pre-sessional course is to introduce students to the use of statistical software, which is essential background for the study of quantitative methods in political science. It is specially tailored to prepare students for the GV481 course.

The course is composed of up to five sessions dedicated to introducing R to MSc students. We will cover basic commands and some more advanced programming techniques, which will be used in GV481.

Teaching

This course provides 10 hours of introductory sessions at the beginning of the Autumn Term. 

Please note that all the teaching for this course will take place in Autumn Term Week 0 (23-27 September 2024).
