This course is available on the LLM (extended part-time), LLM (full-time), MSc in Human Resources and Organisations (Human Resource Management/CIPD), MSc in Human Resources and Organisations (International Employment Relations and Human Resource Management), MSc in Human Resources and Organisations (Organisational Behaviour), MSc in Human Rights, MSc in Law and Accounting and University of Pennsylvania Law School LLM Visiting Students. This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.
This course is capped at 30 students. Students must apply through Graduate Course Choice on ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳forYou.
Course content
The sources and application of human rights in the workplace, including international and European laws and conventions. Civil liberties of employees. Social and economic rights of workers. Protection from discrimination in the labour market and employment. As well as detailed examination of legal materials, the approach involves discussion of theories of human rights and comparisons between legal systems.
Teaching
20 hours of seminars in the LT. 2 hours of seminars in the ST.
Formative coursework
One 2,000 word essay and one presentation.
Indicative reading
A detailed syllabus of weekly readings will be available and the materials can all be accessed through Moodle Preliminary reading: Hugh Collins, Employment Law, 2nd edn (Oxford University Press, 2010), Chapters 9-10.
Assessment
Essay (100%, 8000 words) in the ST.
