Eduardo Haro Pimentel

Master of Public Policy (MPP) Class of 2025

It’s been everything I expected and more. The first week was filled with integration activities, introducing a wide range of academic, career, and well-being resources. With the MPP’s focus on candidates with 5+ years of experience, I’ve found a group of like-minded classmates who share a strong practical background.

Name: Eduardo Haro Pimentel

Programme and year: Master of Public Policy, Class of 2025

Nationality: Peruvian

Can you tell us about your background and why you chose to study the MPP programme at SPP?

I’m originally from Cusco, a city renowned for Machu Picchu, where I studied economics and later earned a master’s in statistics. A few years ago, I moved to Lima, a city twenty times larger, where I developed my career in public policy across various ministries.

For years, I saw ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ as a prestigious yet almost unreachable institution. However, working on high-pressure projects gave me the confidence to test my potential and apply. ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s strong quantitative focus, renowned research centers, and influential alumni network were key factors in my choice. The MPP’s practical, hands-on approach and outstanding reputation aligned perfectly with my career goals and aspirations.

What are the highlights from Welcome and your first few weeks?

It’s been everything I expected and more. The first week was filled with integration activities, introducing a wide range of academic, career, and well-being resources. With the MPP’s focus on candidates with 5+ years of experience, I’ve found a group of like-minded classmates who share a strong practical background. There’s also a dual perception of time: it feels like Welcome Week was just yesterday yet looking back at everything we’ve learned and all the activities we’ve attended, it seems like much more time has passed.

What has been a key learning for you so far?

A key learning has been the importance of integrating theoretical frameworks with actionable policy. I was surprised by the strong emphasis on real-world applicability, which aligns closely with my experience in Peru. Additionally, the interconnectivity between policy discussions, networking events, and global current events has been remarkable.

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m eager to immerse myself in each class, reading, and discussion, making the most of this experience, which is truly one of the greatest of my life. While I’m exploring career and academic paths through ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s resources, my main focus is to savor every moment here because the future can be unpredictable. The vibrant London setting only enhances this journey.

What are your main objectives whilst at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ SPP?

My main objectives are to strengthen my skills in policy analysis, improve my presentation and negotiation skills, and expand my professional network. I also aim to gain the confidence to navigate international organizations and develop solutions applicable to Peru’s context.

What are your hopes/plans for your future after graduation?

I’m a planner by nature, so right after being admitted to the MPP, I envisioned working with an international organization on projects in social development and sustainability. However, after taking such inspiring classes, I’m now open to pursuing a PhD first. In the long term, my goal is to return to Cusco, where I aim to run for Mayor and, eventually, Governor.

Can you describe your SPP experience so far in 3 words?

Insightful. Dynamic. Inspiring.
