Name: Kartik Sanade
Programme and year: MPA Class of 2026
Nationality: Indian
Can you tell us about your background and why you chose to study the MPA programme at SPP?
I have a Bachelors in Business Administration and worked in multiple roles directly after university. I’ve worked in regulatory affairs at an investment bank, as a social media manager for a political campaign and as a climate change campaigner at a non-profit advocacy group. I decided to study the MPA programme at SPP because I wanted to build on my technical skillset while broadening my theoretical perspectives. I wanted to study at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ specifically due to the diverse cohort, as well as its global reputation.
What are the highlights from Welcome and your first few weeks?
As a curious individual with an interest in culture and history, the social events during Welcome were incredibly engaging. Getting to meet people from all around the world, each with their own stories, was very fun to experience. During the first week, where we were all getting to know each other, getting lunch and just connecting with groups of people will remain a fond memory.
What has been a key learning for you so far?
For me, a key learning has been that there is almost always a different way of thinking about things and approaching a problem from a different angle. This has mainly been demonstrated in lectures and seminars when understanding how people approach different problems, and always hearing from the lecturers about something we might have missed.
What are you most looking forward to?
One of the reasons why I was very excited about the MPA was the Capstone project. I’m looking forward to being able to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained from my first year to solve a real-world problem.
What are you hoping to achieve/what are your main objectives whilst you at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ SPP?
I’m hoping to equip myself with the tools required for a successful career in policy. My main objective while being at the SPP is to collect as much knowledge and use ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s resources in the best way possible, while also learning more from the people around me.
What are your hopes or plans for your future after graduation?
I’m interested in a broad range of policy sectors including climate, technology, and economic policy. This allows me to keep my options open while deciding on a future career. I think more than picking a specific sector, what is important to me is finding a job which is challenging yet rewarding. Preferably one where I can see some level of tangible impact!
Can you describe your SPP experience so far in 3 words?
Insightful. Collaborative. Enriching.
