SEAC Seminar Series and Networking Grant

The ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre (SEAC) aims to nurture and support critical enquiries into the Southeast Asian region by academic staff and early career researchers (ECRs) at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, and for their network to expand on a global scale to foster open and critical debates.

SEAC is pleased to announce the Seminar Series and Networking Grant for the 2024/25 Academic Year. The scheme is open to ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ academic staff and ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Early Career Researchers, including PhD students.

We welcome applications for seminar series, study groups or networking events focusing on social science issues relevant to Southeast Asia. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. 

Applicants are recommended to form a partnership with non-ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ applicants. While events are expected to be based at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, applicants are encouraged to include co-applicants from other universities where appropriate.

Dr Andrea Pia, (Assistant Professor, Dept of Anthropology, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳) was awarded SEAC's Seminar and Networking Grant, and in November 2022 organised a virtual workshop on Justice After Carbon.

Application Information and Details

Please note that we are accepting applications for the Seminar Series and Networking Grant which will be assessed on a rolling basis. 

When planning seminars, applicants should consult the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s . This includes considerations such as making a reasonable attempt to have a gender balance among speakers, sufficiently advance invitations to allow for any childcare arrangements, as well as considerations relating to ethnicity, age, disability and so on. The standard ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ accessibility texts is to be included in online event announcements.   

Successful applicants will assume responsibility and accountability for organising events and will be representing SEAC as organisers and Chairs during events, working closely with SEAC for their preparation to coordinate activities and their timing. Successful applicants are welcome to invite their home department/institution to act as co-host of their events with SEAC.

Any event the lead applicant or co-applicant chairs at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ requires that they familiarise themselves with the , which contains useful information about ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s policies and codes of practice regarding free speech and dealing with disruptions / fire alarms, etc. External speakers should also be briefed on these guidelines before their arrival.
