Introducing Dr Nicole CuUnjieng Aboitiz, SEAC Visiting Fellow and Research Fellow at Clare Hall, Supervisor in World History, and the Executive Director of the Toynbee Prize Foundation.
1.What will you be working on during your time as SEAC Visiting Fellow?
I am working on my second book project, which seeks to disentangle class and relationships with the natural environment, focusing especially on elite class formation, in the Philippines over the last two hundred years.
2.What led you to your field of study/what inspired your interest in these topics?
After completing my PhD, I went down a posthumanist rabbit hole and went very deep into interrogations of the nature-culture divide. I am yet to emerge from that rabbit hole, and indeed am trying to bring everyone down into it with me.
3. How do you like to relax and unwind?
I sleep, eat, and dream surf. You may find me in the library, ostensibly working, but really just re-riding certain unforgettable waves in my memory.
