Fabio is a multi-awarded researcher in the field of well-being and public policy, whose work spans empirical, theoretical and methodological contributions. His empirical research focuses on the use of well-being (or "beyond GDP") metrics in policymaking and the media. Among other things, he is particularly interested in examining the level of awareness of GDP and its flaws among policymakers and journalists, as well as how economic growth and post-growth scenario are perceived by these. Theoretically, another strand of Fabio’s research focuses on the policymaking process more generally in the attempt to elaborate a theory of policy change. Methodologically, Fabio has provided guidance on the use of AI-driven voice recognition programmes for the transcription of qualitative research and is currently developing similar work on media monitoring platforms.
Fabio joined the Department as an ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Fellow in 2022. Prior to that, he worked as Executive Research Assistant to Professor Henrietta Moore, Director of the Institute for Global Prosperity at UCL. He earned his doctorate degree from the University of Edinburgh where in 2022 he passed his viva without corrections. His thesis, which investigated the factors promoting and inhibiting the use and impact of well-being metrics in Scotland and Italy, received the Best Dissertation Award by ISQOLS (2024) and a prize by the Scientific Council of the Italian Embassy in London (2023). Over the years, Fabio has repeatedly been nominated by students for teaching and tutoring awards. Outside of university, he plays the drums in an alternative rock band and once played on stage with U2.
