The Global Sexual & Gender Identities Policy Lab (GSGIPL) in ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Department of Social Policy seeks to understand the impact of social and public policies on sexual and gender minorities, and explore how policies can improve the well-being of people around the world, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity. To that end, we are engaged in cutting-edge research and teaching on sexual and gender identities as they relate to various policy areas, such as sexual health, poverty & inequality, civic participation & activism, public attitudes, familisation, marriage, eldercare, immigration & asylum, algorithmic fairness, content moderation, etc. Our research is distinctly comparative and global in nature, with particular (though not exclusive) attention paid to the Global South. It is also methodologically diverse, from qualitative ethnographic research to quantitative ‘big data’ studies. Similarly, we are not bound by any single epistemology or ontology.
The Global Sexual & Gender Identities Policy Lab serves several important functions: showcase existing research and teaching at the School; offer peer support to faculty and students engaged in related research; share research at all stages of development; identify opportunities for collaboration with external researchers and practitioners; build and develop a community of current and future PhD students; attract research funding; highlight & ramp-up outreach and KEI activities; engage various stakeholders; and bring evidence closer to public policymaking.
