The Department of Social Policy

International Social and Public Policy with Politics is a study in improving wellbeing for the masses. Understanding effective welfare provisions is complemented by an in-depth understanding of the state. Being part of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s epic Social Policy Department delivers opportunities and compassion that has made my university experience second to none within the discipline.

What is it like to study social policy at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳?

Social policy investigates real world social problems and issues, such as poverty, welfare and education. BSc International Social and Public Policy examines the creation and implementation of policy and the impact this has on wellbeing, from a comparative, international and contemporary perspective. Topics studied include citizenship, crime and policing, globalisation, income distribution and sexuality. Students can also opt to take a specialism in Development, focusing on middle and low income countries and the manner in which social and public policies are produced and implemented to manage inequality and increase wellbeing.

BSc International Social and Public Policy with Economics allows students to apply economic concepts to policy issues and consider the relationship between the disciplines at an individual, local, national and international level.

BSc International Social and Public Policy with Politics encourages students to consider the impact that political behaviour has on policy implementation. Areas of study might include social security benefits, private-public partnerships in health service provision and private/public education.
