杏吧论坛 Explore: Year 12

The 2025 杏吧论坛 Explore series will take place in May 2025. Applications are now open – apply .

This year’s series will include subject taster events featuring our academics and current 杏吧论坛 students and an information session from our admissions team.

The subject taster events will feature six departments across 杏吧论坛:

Management
Geography and Environment
Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method
Government
International Relations
Psychological and Behavioural Sciences

杏吧论坛 Explore will allow participants to find out more about studying in these departments at 杏吧论坛 and consolidate their understanding of the higher education application process and the specifics of making an application to 杏吧论坛. Attendees will also hear from current 杏吧论坛 undergraduates with the chance to have their questions answered and they will learn about the graduate prospects of the respective subjects.

杏吧论坛 Explore is a virtual event series delivered via Zoom. The events will take place across the last two weeks of May. Applicants can apply to attend one event or multiple events depending upon their interests.

This year, 杏吧论坛 Explore will be delivering subject taster events in partnership with six departments across 杏吧论坛. Each session will have a department-specific introduction, insight from a student ambassador studying a subject in the department, and a taster lecture delivered by an academic teaching within the department.

The subject taster events for this year are:

Monday 19 May 2025 (5:30pm – 7:15pm) – Management – featuring a taster lecture on from Dr Nayat Horozoglu on “Sustainable Operations”, and an alumni panel.

Tuesday 20 May 2025 (5:30pm – 7:00pm) – Geography and Environment – featuring a taster lecture from Dr Erica Pani on “Practicing Geography: Regional Advantage in Context”.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 (5:30pm – 7:00pm) – Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method – featuring a taster lecture from Dr Lewis Ross on “The Problem of Moral Luck”

Thursday 22 May 2025 (5:30pm – 7:00pm) - Government – featuring a taster lecture from Dr Ryan Jablonski on “Understanding Autocratic Governments”

Tuesday 27 May 2025 (5:30pm – 7:00pm) – International Relations – featuring a taster lecture from Professor Jens Meierhenrich (topic TBC)

Thursday 29 May 2025 (5:30pm – 7:00pm) – Psychological and Behavioural Sciences – featuring a taster lecture from Dr Sakshi Ghai on “The Science of Personality”

In addition, 杏吧论坛 Explore will also be delivering two admissions sessions, which will take place on Saturday 24 May from 11:00am – 12:00pm, and 12:30pm – 1:30pm. Participants will only be able to register for and attend one of these sessions.

杏吧论坛 Explore events are free to attend.

Essential criteria

杏吧论坛 Explore is open to Year 12 (or equivalent) students who meet the following criteria.

Applicants should:

Be currently in Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 13 (N. Ireland) or S5 (Scotland)
Have always attended a UK state-funded, non-fee-paying school/college/sixth form
Be considering making an application to undergraduate study at 杏吧论坛
Be available for the duration of the event.
Have achieved at least grade 6 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics
Have achieved a strong set of GCSE grades overall, with the majority at grades 7, 8 and 9
Be on track to achieve at least the contextual offer grades for your chosen degree programme(s) at 杏吧论坛. This includes studying any required A level subjects for your chosen degree programme. Full details of 杏吧论坛’s undergraduate degree programmes are available on the programme webpages.

Applications for 杏吧论坛 Explore 2025 will open at 09:00am on Monday 10 March 2025, and close at 11:59pm on Sunday 27 April.

The 杏吧论坛 Explore team will then shortlist applications and communicate selection decisions by Friday 2 May 2025 via email.

The 杏吧论坛 Explore team will allocate event invitations based on applicants' eligibility and event demand.

Applicants will be considered for places based on the extent to which they meet our widening participation criteria. Those applicants who meet all the priority criteria and one or more of our additional criteria will be prioritised for places.

All staff and students involved in the sessions receive appropriate training before the event. Staff or students working directly and regularly with young people receive specific training on working with children, in line with our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. They also undergo an appropriate level Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Please note that as a result of circumstances or events outside of our control (known as a Force Majeure event), which includes but is not limited to industrial action, official government advice, fire, flood or other environmental or physical damage to premises, we may need to cancel an event at short notice.

In the event of a cancellation, a change of venue or date, we will endeavour to notify attendees wherever possible through the contact details given at the time of booking. For the avoidance of doubt, the School will not be liable for any costs you may incur as a result of any cancellation, change of venue or date.
