Mattie is a second year PhD in Human Geography and Urban Studies. She has an academic background in Human Geography and completed a Masters in Urbanisation and Development at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳. Her specific interest is in Mozambique where she has been visiting for almost a decade. Her PhD research focuses on house-building and small-settlement urbanisation in a locality close to Inhambane. This is being developed through the lenses of postcolonial and postsocialism, and considers social relations and aesthetics in the production of space. Outside of academia, Mattie has Mattie has six years’ experience in the UK Civil Service where she has worked on a variety issues, from EU trade negotiations, crisis response and environmental policy.
