About me

Woong Ki is a third year MPhil/PhD student in Environmental Policy and Development. His research interests revolve around the stated preference literature, with a specific focus on estimating the premature mortality and morbidity costs of chemicals that are widely used across many consumer goods. Using both contingent valuation method and choice experiments that are based on hypothetical scenarios stemming from real-life and up-to-date policy discussions (mainly in the U.K. and across the E.U), his research aims to examine factors that may affect people’s willingness-to-pay under the presence of uncertainty and irreversibility. The projects are partly funded by Defra and the OECD, as some segments of the studies are being conducted in collaboration with researchers from the UK HSE and the US EPA.

Before joining ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, Woong Ki worked at the Seoul Institute (a social science research institute affiliated to the Seoul Metropolitan Government) as a researcher, with contributions to the development of various air quality management schemes for the city. He also has internship experiences on climate change adaptation issues from national and international organizations including the Korea Environment Institute and the World Meteorological Organization. He holds a BS in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Korea University, and a MSc in City Planning in Environmental Studies from Seoul National University.
